Grief is not solely tied to death.
Sadness is not solely tied to loss.
Although this series is primarily about books about death and grief, comfort and advice can be found in books which deal with sadness and loss in a more general way.

MICHAEL ROSEN’S SAD BOOK by Michael Rosen, illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Poignant and hard-hitting – and oh, so relatable. Michael Rosen shares his feelings after the sudden death of his son, Eddie. The roller-coaster of emotions is beautiful dealt with – and his coping mechanisms.
A wonderful book for anyone feeling sad, not just those grieving. Highly recommended.
MY HEART by Corinna Luyken.
A metaphorical look at emotions and feelings.
Although not about death and grief, this can be a reassuring message for those struggling with their feelings.
A SHELTER FOR SADNESS by Anne Booth & David Litchfield.
A picture book exploring the place of sadness in a life, letting sadness have a place – showing that sadness is legitimate and normal.
THE GOODBYE BOOK by Todd Parr.
Although not specifically looking at death – this is a wonderful book looking at the feelings around a loss.
CLARE’S GOODBYE by Libby Gleeson & Anna Pignataro.
Everyone has their own ways of dealing with change and farewells, which is gently shown in this story of three siblings moving and saying goodbye to their home.
Although not about death, change and moving house creates its own measure of grief.
