Dear Black Child

Dear Black Child

Dear Black Child book cover.

Written by: Rahma Rodaah.

Illustrated by: Lydia Mba.

The principle on the second day of Kwanzaa is Kujichaguli, self-determination.

I felt this book encompasses this principle in a way children can understand and relate to. (I am not Black. I would love to hear how people who are feel about this book!) This book encourages children to define themselves and to stand strong.  It explains to Black children that they belong and even when they hear hurtful words to “Gather your strength and March on”.

This book belongs in every library.
