Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story

Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story

Written by: Kevin Noble Maillard.

Illustrated by: Juana Martinez-Neal.

There aren’t enough words for me to describe how important a book like this is. So I’m just going to post part of the author’s note.

“The story of frybread is the story of American Indians: embracing community and culture in the face of oppositions.”

Every page of this book starts with “Fry Bread is….” The words are kept very simple until you get to the end of the book where it is described fully what the author is trying to express. For example on the page that says “fry bread is color” the words simply explain about the color of the actual bread. At the end of the book it is explained deeper about how the population of Americans that identify as Native American is diverse and varied.

I don’t even know where to start in expressing how important I think it is to read this to children. And embraces understanding, kindness, love and diversity. Fry Bread is Kind ❤
