Inspired by the folktales she heard in her community as child, about the trickster Brer Rabbit and the other Brer characters, Zora defeats all odds and became an influential author, anthropologist and film maker. This picture book is the story of her journey.

I suggest people learn the true history of these African American folktales instead of the Pop Culture we see today. A fun read for middle graders to give a taste of the Brer history is the “Tristan Strong” series by Kwame Mbalia.
