Laxmi is uncomfortable with her mooch, hair above her lip, when her friends suggest she should be a cat during pretend time. Although her friends don’t mean to hurt her feelings, she is upset. Laxmi tells her parents how she feels and they explain how everyone in their family and other woman with the same heritage also have a mooch and they are proud. This empowerment they give her encourages Laxmi to express herself, and her pride, to her friends. I love the cultural references in this book that include cuisine. This is a very Body Positive book that I believe all young children would enjoy that are in elementary school and younger.
Ages: 5 to 7 years old.
