This is a comic about the new kid in school. The new student is depicted as a human silhouette with rainbow stripes. They are having a hard time fitting in with the rest of the students and a lot of the students are just being mean and discriminating. That’s when their Guardian Drag Queen appears to them! The drag queens in the book support and give advice to the child on how to deal with bullying and discrimination. A VERY important theme in this book is “You Be You”! Not fitting in with everyone else is ok because you will find your friends in the end. This book promotes communication of feelings and understanding that you are not alone.
I Highly recommend this comic for older elementary and up. It fits in with the fiction and nonfiction area of a collection. It is also a good book to bring understanding about Drag Queens and their involvement with Storytime.
The Pop Culture Coalition is an organization that has been standing up to bullies and promoting kindness since 2013.
