Babies Love Science: Changing Leaves

Babies Love Science: Changing Leaves

Program Description

This is a program that works for children ages 18 months and up.  It is a good program to run in the fall.  Children will leave understanding  leaves change color for a reason. The craft will enforce this concept.

The word I choose to teach the children was “chlorophyll”.

Activity/Structure

  1. Start with your favorite Hello Song!
  2. Read Autumn Leaves.  As you go through the seasons, raise the season stick associated with the season.
  3. This is when I teach them the word of the day “chlorophyll”
  4. Sing a song about the seasons or a video. I played https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BkkzF9z4-g
  5. Read Fall Leaves: Colorful and Crunchy
  6. Craft time.  Give each child 4 sticks, a light green leave, dark green leave, yellow leave and brown leave.
  7. Ask their adult to write the season names on the sticks.
  8. As  group figure out what color leaves go with each season
  9. The children or adults will then glue the leaves on.
  10. Give the children to draw faces and add eyes 🙂
  11. Optional: replay the song sung earlier so children can wave their season sticks during each season.
