Babies Love Science: Changing Leaves
Program Description
This is a program that works for children ages 18 months and up. It is a good program to run in the fall. Children will leave understanding leaves change color for a reason. The craft will enforce this concept.
The word I choose to teach the children was “chlorophyll”.

- Read Autumn Leaves. As you go through the seasons, raise the season stick associated with the season.
- This is when I teach them the word of the day “chlorophyll”
- Sing a song about the seasons or a video. I played https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BkkzF9z4-g
- Read Fall Leaves: Colorful and Crunchy
- Craft time. Give each child 4 sticks, a light green leave, dark green leave, yellow leave and brown leave.
- Ask their adult to write the season names on the sticks.
- As group figure out what color leaves go with each season
- The children or adults will then glue the leaves on.
- Give the children to draw faces and add eyes 🙂
- Optional: replay the song sung earlier so children can wave their season sticks during each season.
