A No-Sew Tote Bag from a t-shirt

Making a tote bag out of a t-shirt.

Materials:

  • An old t-shirt
  • Sharp scissors
  • Washable marker (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the sleeves off: Fold the t-shirt in half so you can cut both sleeves at once
  2. Cut the neckline: Freehand cut, or use a bowl to trace around, and cut out the neckline
  3. Figure out how deep you want the bag to be. Turn the t-shirt inside out and trace a line across
  4. Cut fringe: Cut slits from the bottom of the shirt up to the line marking the bottom of the bag. Cut both front and back layers together to match up for the next step
  5. Fringe: Tie your first pair of fringe together in a knot, then tie two more pairs. To close the holes, take one strand from the middle set (with arrow pointing left) and tie in a knot with one on the left side. Now tie the other middle set (arrow pointing right) and tie in a know with one of the strands on the right set. Take remaining strand on right set and tie it to the next set of strands. Continue until all tied.
  6. Turn t-shirt right side out again and use!
