Babies Love Science: Bats
Program Description
This is a program that works for children ages 18 months and up. Children will learn about bats.
The new word they will learn is “Nocturnal” .
Materials
Materials for Craft
- Purple or black construction paper
- Pre cut out bats
- and strips
- Popsicle Sticks
- Black and white crayons
- Glue Sticks
- Googley Eyes (optional)
Books
- “Bats on the Beach” by Brian Lies
- “Flying Bats” by Fay Robinson
Song
- “Batty Bat” Sesame Street
Activity/Structure
- Start with your favorite Hello Song!
- Read Bats on the Beach.
- This is when I teach them the word of the day “Nocturnal”
- Sing a bat song
- Read Flying Bats. Enforcing the lesson of the word nocturnal
- Craft time. Give each child a bat shape, a strip of paper, stick, crayons and glue stick.
- have the children draw eyes and mouth on center of the strip of paper.
- Ask adults to help child with glue stick. They will be making a tube with the strip then gluing the wings to the back. Finally glue the sick onto the back.
- Lastly I played the song Batty Bat and they kids danced and flew their bats!
