Spaghetti on a Hot Dog Bun
Program Description
This is a program that works for children ages 3 and up. The point of this program is to teach children that it is ok to be different, in fact it’s wonderful, and to be kind.
Materials
Materials for Food Craft
- Cooked Spaghetti.
- Marinara Sauce warmed in a crock pot
- Hot Dog Buns
- Plates, a spaghetti scooper and napkins
- Optional: Cheese or other toppings
- Optional: Containers

- “Spaghetti on a Hotdog Bun: Having the Courage to be who you are” by Maria Dismondy
Songs
- “Friends are Different and the Same” Daniel Tiger
Activity/Structure
- Start with your favorite Hello Song!
- Read “Spaghetti on a Hot Dog Bun“. As you read ask the children questions such as:
- How do the characters feel?
- What does it mean to have courage?
- This is when I teach them the word of the day “courage”
- Sing a song. Suggetion
- “Friends are Different and the Same”
- Talk to the children about foods they like. Talk about something you like to eat that may be considered unusual.
- Talk about bullying.
- Craft time. Give each child a hot dog bun, spaghetti, Sauce and toppings.
- I had ingredients separated in small individual containers ,
- Or you can scoop it out individually.
- Let the kids have at it and create their snack!
- It is so much fun watching the kids taste their new unusual snack!
